tomalesbay100We tried to do this ride on March 29 but got rained out. And it has been 20 years since I attempted to do this route.  I remembered that it was a long rolling ride, a big climb at the end, and a good chance of dealing with headwind for part of the ride.  My memory served me well.

Here is the route that we took.  A classic roll from SF into Sausilito, the usual route to Fairfax, and then the rollers begin as we made our way to Petaluma.  A quick cafe stop before we got on Bodega Ave for a long windy stretch to Tomales Bay.  Again, we did a quick stop and refuel, got on Highway 1, and worked together to get to Pt. Reyes.  The wind helped us at times and fought us a little bit in some sections.  The views were classic California as we rolled into a very busy Pt. Reyes Station.  Everyone enjoyed an extended stop, some good food, and people watching.  No one was in a hurry to get back on the bike to get to Mt. Tam, but we did.

We had some headwind until we reached Stinson Beach, the base of Mt. Tam.  Ninety miles in the legs as we started this climb.  It was not that bad, but the legs were tired.  Long ups and long downs before we finished this climb.  A quick drop into Sausilito to get our final 10 miles back to San Francisco.

I loved everything about this ride and I am sure we will be doing it again.
